On October 26, Ray Krncevic presented a webinar to the physician and hospital clients of health care administrative services provider Medic Management Group LLC. Ray explored provisions within the No Surprises Act, a federal law that will take effect on January 1, 2022 to ban the practice of “balance billing” patients when they obtain out-of-network care in situations where they are unable to choose an in-network provider. The Act sets forth mechanisms to determine how much of these bills must be covered by insurance plans when there is no contract between them and the health care providers in question and includes a series of consumer protection and transparency mandates. Ray focused on the ongoing rule-making process, how to comply when a state has its own laws on surprise billing, and a series of strategies that health care providers should consider as the effective date approaches.
