Carter Strang Creates “Police Encounters” Lessons for Cleveland Schools

December 2015

Carter Strang has created lessons that provide guidelines for students when encountering police in vehicles and other situations. The lessons, now in use in all Cleveland and East Cleveland public high schools, also discuss remedies for improper police behavior, including the recently approved U.S. Justice Department and City of Cleveland Consent Order intended to address such behavior. Carter, a recent graduate of the Shaker Heights Citizens Police Academy and former high school Criminology and Government teacher, created the lessons in response to concerns stemming from nationally publicized deaths arising from police encounters. The police encounters lessons are taught by over 400 Cleveland attorneys through the award-winning Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association 3Rs program. Carter serves a co-chair of the 3Rs Curriculum Committee and is a past program chair and a 3Rs teacher.
