Carter Strang Wins National Awards

October 2013

Tucker Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Carter Strang, a partner in the firm’s Cleveland office, has won the 2013 DRI Lifetime Community Service Award. Nominated by the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, Mr. Strang is the first Ohioan to win the award.

Mr. Strang also received the 2013 Federal Bar Association’s Elaine “Boots” Fisher Award. The award is given to an FBA member who has demonstrated exemplary community, public, and charitable service.

“Over the years, Carter has shown a deep commitment to the Federal Bar Association, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and the Cleveland Public Schools, as well as our own law firm,” said Tucker Ellis Managing Partner Joe Morford. “We’re proud to see that his contributions have been appropriately recognized through these well-deserved awards.”

Mr. Strang is Immediate Past President of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and a past president of the Northern District of Ohio FBA Chapter.

As CMBA President, he created the Louis Stokes Scholars Program, a pipeline diversity and inclusion program for college students that provides paid legal internships for those interested in a career in law. The program—which graduated 40 Stokes Scholars in its first two years—won the 2013 LexisNexis Community & Educational Outreach Award, given by the National Association of Bar Executives, and the 2013 Expys award for Best New Internship, presented by the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education and CBC Magazine.

The Tucker Ellis award-winning pipeline diversity program—which features partnerships between the firm and urban public schools in Cleveland, Los Angeles, and San Francisco—was initiated by Mr. Strang, who serves as its coordinator.
