Janie L. Thompson

Janie Thompson focuses her practice on intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis on litigation and dispute resolution.

Janie has a comprehensive trademark practice ranging from counseling, clearance, domestic and foreign prosecution, and portfolio management through the enforcement and litigation of trademark disputes. She works closely with clients to develop effective brand protection strategies, including through informal dispute resolution as well as litigation before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, in federal court, and in domain name dispute proceedings. Janie is also experienced in copyright and patent litigation, including litigating cases in federal court and before the International Trade Commission.

In addition to intellectual property matters, Janie counsels clients regarding regulatory compliance for online and print marketing and advertising, particularly in connection with consumer packaged goods, and has advocated on behalf of clients in advertising disputes in federal courts and in challenges before the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

As part of her marketing practice, Janie also advises clients regarding sweepstakes, contests, and other promotions, including preparing official rules and winner releases.

While in law school at the UCLA School of Law, Janie briefed and argued an immigration asylum case before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of a pro bono client. She also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Arthur L. Alarcón of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

When not at her desk, Janie enjoys spending time with family and friends, particularly when it involves dragging them on outings to wine country, Disneyland, concerts, or the beach. She otherwise prefers being “indoorsy” and enjoys having quiet time for reading, yoga, and meditation.
